Today Bekka had an idea to start with the gross and work our way into the good. So I'm starting with a cabbage, romaine based juice. Bekka made this one so I can't remember what else is in it. But I can definitely smell the cabbage, as we'll as everyone else. They've asked I drink it down stairs. Bottoms up!

And Pizza
Well after Monday's beet juice we were pretty down on juicing, so... we ordered pizza. Anyway, we thought we might approach this juicing with a little bit different of an approach so we wouldn't go so far off the wagon. So right now we are juicing in the morning for breakfast, lunch and snacks, then in the evening we are going for a healthy solid food dinner.
Yesterday we did a our juice from day one that we really liked, but we added extra spinach and celery to it. Then for lunch we had a mostly green one that included fennel, cucumber, celery, green apple for flavor and I think some other stuff. It wasn't good, but it was better than the beet juice. Then the afternoon juice was cool because it had sweet potatoes, oranges, carrots, in it as well as some greens, but we separated out the pulp of first three from the rest and Bekka made muffins from the pulp.
For dinner we had chopped romaine on a wheat tortilla with cheese, black beans, grilled chicken, and some delicious cafe rio house ranch sauce.

Beets and Radishes
So the morning Juice was very gingery. It was a Blackberry and Grape mixture at it's base, but with a good amount of ginger added. The second juice was a take on yesterday's green lemonade, but with much more green apple in it to offset the not so good taste. It was slightly better. Today's lunch juice, which in this mornings picture is the dark red juice on the right, is pretty bad. It's Beets and Radishes at it's base with a lemon, some parsley and I can't remember what else added. The beets give it an extremely earthy smell that hits you in the face. The beets and radishes are really strong and it doesn't taste as earthy as it smells, but the taste is not great. The ingredients made so much of that juice we are using it as our afternoon snack. It's only 1:30 and I'm freaking hungry, but at the same time I don't know if I can take a second helping of the beet juice. Time to go pee again!

Still Juicing
Well we are nearing the end of day one. It's definitely not easy. We've been reminiscing over all the foods that we wish we were eating. I know what your thinking, it's not even been one full day.
Anyway, we tried a green juice recipe called 'Green Lemonade' that consisted of celery, cucumbers, spinach, a green apple, and lemon. That one was not very good.
We just tried a 'Bruschetta Juice' that consisted of~
Just in case you can't tell thats:

Just in case you can't tell thats:
- Tomatoes
- Basil
- Garlic
We might have gone a little overboard on the garlic, but it was definitely better than the green lemonade. The nice part of this one is that the after taste makes me think I had Bruschetta, but definitely missing from this one was... the bread. Anyway we got one more juice to go for tonight.
The first gulp!
Our first juice was not bad! We used a recipe from a sister site of the Fat Sick and Nearly Dead documentary site (Reboot with Joe). The juice contains:
- Celery
- Spinach
- Oranges
- Grapefruit (which stood out the most to me)
- Red apples
See the recipe here
While I'm not a fan of grapefruits, I thought that the other flavors balanced it out enough to make it taste good. The first gulp I thought was delicious, but as I got to the bottom of the glass I started to want a breakfast sandwich from Chick-fil-a... Anyway, here's to better health.
The calm before the storm
My wife Rebekah and I recently watched the documentary Fat Sick and Nearly dead (available on netflix and hulu) and decided we wanted to do a reboot by trying a 10 day juice fast.
Last night we had out last meaty fatty meal (our new favorite cheesesteak place DP Cheesesteak here in Utah where we just moved). We then went to Costco and loaded up on a bunch of their produce and picked up a Jack LaLanne juicer. I snapped this picture to capture some of the amount of produce we are going to try and consume over the next 10 days. We will be using this blog as a journal of sorts to post progress and recipes.
